Labor Day is upon us, the holiday dedicated to the achievements of American workers, and the contributions they have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country.  Take a moment to celebrate your contribution as the vast majority of us are the workers who make this country and community great.

Labor unions have played an important and significant role over the years, however, it has been the laborers themselves who have helped this country achieve the highest standard of living and the greatest production the world has ever known.   The partnership of management, workers, and unions ensures equity amongst all parties leading to the productivity and profitability of industry.

The same holds true in the contract that we have between the citizens and the public employees that provide essential services to each of us here in Menasha.  The jobs that they hold and services they provide might not be glamorous, but they are important to the quality of life that we have here in the community.  The compensation that they receive is payment for their labor to provide these services back to us.  Following Friday's storms the dedication of our public workforce throughout the Fox Valley again stood out as they first made sure that we were safe, and then began what amounts to an immense cleanup.    While Menasha was spared the brunt of the storm its comforting to know that the people who work for our city are ready on a moments notice.

As we enjoy these final days of summer be it at the lake, the cabin, enjoying a twin-cities tradition JazzFest, or relaxing at home, take a moment to celebrate your contribution to the economy.  Then join me celebrating at the Labor Day Parade Monday morning at 10AM downtown.  Happy Labor Day!
