January 02, 2010

The new year started with a bang in downtown Menasha again this year. After a one year absence the fireworks returned. A spectacular show by Sky Broken Fireworks was the main attraction at this year's First Eve Celebration. A crowd gathered at midnight to watch the ball drop signifying the end of 2009 and optimism for what 2010 has to bring.

If the show is any sign of things to come 2010 should be a good year for our community.

  • I'm optimistic that Lake Park Square and Villas will see new growth. The common council has hired Core Development and Kim Pitchke/Kris Oats to market the area who have already begun an agresssive campaign. The current residents and buisnesses love the area and see its potential to grow given the right marketing. Core Development has already breathed new life into the restaurnant space with the new Slider's and is optimistic that new buisnesses will join them in the near future.

  • Construction on our new Manitowoc Rd fire station is slated to begin this spring. The new station will replace our aging station 36 on Airport Road and equalize response times throughout the city. As we continue to grow to the east this will be more and more important to have timely first responder coverage with Neenah Menasha Fire Rescue. The station funded mainly with federal stimulus funding will be a great asset to the community for years to come.

  • Downtown continues to show new life. 2010 will see two new coffee shops, and two new renovated retail spaces for new unnamed busisnesses. Last year's Sunnrunner event will be returning, and the Farm Fresh Market will continue to grow.

  • Mission Village will welcome its first tennants this spring. With 60+ units this multi-million dollar development will create a wonderful neighborhood for independent seniors in the Fox Valley. Convienient to shopping, doctors, entertainment, and the highways the development had a waiting list before construction even began.

While 2009 has been a great year in many ways, lets get ready for 2010 to be even better in Menasha!
