Tonight’s Common Council meeting will be Jason’s last as First District Alderman. I know many Menasha citizens will join me in wishing him well in his new home. Jason’s thoughtfulness, expertise and wit will be sorely missed on the council.

Jason has been a downtown pioneer with his business, JDog Studios. At a time when our downtown was floundering he recognized the potential to grow his business here in Menasha. Since then he has been joined by several other successful businesses. JDog Studios continues to grow in both reputation and volume, and will continue to be an important part of our downtown.

Jason was also instrumental in his work to establish our Farm Fresh Market downtown. From its modest start last fall to lining the entire marina's edge this year, the market has become a social and shopping destination each week adding life to our downtown and providing new customers for other brick and mortar businesses along Main Street.

In his short time on the Common Council, and in the spirit of the First District, Jason has proven to be a very independent alderman. He has never hesitated to take a stand for what he feels is right, even when it means being the lone vote on an issue. Interestingly enough, the council has on occasion reconsidered at a subsequent meeting following his lonely vote. I respect Jason for having the courage to vote his conscience, even when I don’t agree with him. Alderman Webber often told me that you have to be able to look at yourself in the mirror the next morning after a vote, and I'm sure that Jason hasn't had a problem doing so.

Though the city is facing very serious issues, I truly believe that by next year at this time Menasha will be seeing much better times. I’m confident that Jason will continue to contribute, as he has in the past, to our efforts to make Menasha an even better place to work and live.

Many thanks for your service to the community Jason!

If you reside in the First District and would like to be considered to replace Jason, you still have time to submit a resume. Check here for more information.
