The river and the waterfront are the future of our city; I think that we all have images of these beautiful areas of Menasha in our hearts and minds. It was more apparent than ever last weekend as I traveled along with Mayor Hanna and over 200 kayaks from Shattuck Park to Lutz Park going through Menasha and the lock.

A sizeable crowd of onlookers gathered at the locksite as the lock was filled twice with paddlers from around the state. At the same time we dedicated the "Community Lock Heritage Mural" donated by Menasha 2000 on a site adjacent to the lock and the Trestle Trail.

Part of the annual "Park to Park Paddle” this year included a replica of a French voyageur canoe, and two French voyageurs in period dress. It is a prime example of the kind of community events that the Fox-Wisconsin Heritage Parkway project's programming component will encourage.
